Dolley Madison's "Scripture Cake."
(Excerpted from, God's Signature over the Nation's Capital,
copyright 1985 by Catherine Millard.)

James Madison's wife, Dolley Madison, was purportedly the most vivacious hostess the White House has ever known. She and her husband, James Madison, were profound
Christians, attending "The Church of the Presidents" on Lafayette Square. Dolley's "Scripture Cake" recipe was written, she said, so that family and friends would read the Bible and come to a saving knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Ingredients:

Four and one-half cups of I Kings IV:22
One cup Judges V:25 last clause
Two cups Jeremiah VI:20
Two cups I Samuel XXX:12
Two cups Nahum III:12
One large tablespoon I Samuel XIV:25
One cup Numbers XVII:8
Season to taste of II Chronicles IX:9
6 of Jeremiah XVII:11

And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.
